MCU Newsletter

Tasked with writing the first MCU Newsletter (print), I was provided with an outline of article topics and promotions. I wrote all copy, except the Newsletter title and CEO intro, which I proofed and edited. Copy includes all articles, sidebar ads, ghostwritten “branch opening interview” and the back page branch info and sidebar. All relevant department heads approved early drafts either immediately or almost immediately. (Links to final Print Proof.)

Products & Services Brochure

First copy deck draft of an MCU brochure (print). This came with a one-line brief, allowing me to take the initiative and produce the copy deck with a design approach in mind.

What a Save! Social Media Campaign

With a view to lightening the tone and approach of the company on social media, I created a light-hearted campaign based around the idea of “saving” in terms of sports/fun and teaming it with the struggle people have to save money. I searched up images that worked and wrote copy related to them. (Links to: Copy deck first draft.)

Ghost-Writing

Entry into a leadership awards program, which the company felt the CEO should be entered into, required nomination statements and letters of recommendation from two to four C-Suite professionals. I was tasked with studying entrance requirements and ghost-writing the letters of recommendation.

There was no contact available and the deadline was tight, so I researched the relationship of the nominators to the CEO, along with any available online info, and created the letters in line with the required word count, along with the initial statement. All copy was approved with no changes required. (Links to first/final copy deck draft.)

Fraud Awareness Landing Page

The existing page was far from comprehensive and not much use to link to when creating fraud awareness emails. I took it upon myself to create a more comprehensive page and led design by creating a contents section at top, along with clickable links in the copy deck, which was followed.

This took a lot of research and was done partly on my own time. (Links to copy deck first draft.)

MCU Anniversary Article

Took the initiative for the anniversary of MCU. I created a history of the company with a related timeline, which I researched by culling information from various places, then confirmed by checking each item against facts confirmed both in-house and via trusted sources.

Proposed Digital Marketing Plan

I created a proposed marketing plan for the new year, naming goals and content types that could work with and from each other across campaigns and promotions. This was an attempted drive to push the marketing department more fully into the digital age. (Links to copy deck first draft.)

Emails – Onboarding Flow

Although a third-party company was building out flows for emails and triggers generally, the marketing manager felt that it was becoming unwieldy and hard to follow. I couldn’t follow it myself and created my own onboarding workflow/triggers page, along with email copy drafts for those emails. (Links to first draft copy deck.)

10 Key Steps for First-Time Homebuyers Post

The company was not updating blog posts and was relying on a few short-copy pieces created by a third-party provider who distributed the same work among credit unions and advised “no follow” links.

I started writing long-form SEO-optimised blog posts, seeing this as an opportunity to build our Google rankings and profit from backlinks from government sites. Ultimately, they didn’t come under review. (Links to copy deck first draft.)

Microsite – Onboarding-Digital Drive

Tasked with writing a mini website designed as part of the onboarding experience for new members. This was designed to create a combination of sight-byte information around digital banking with access to sign up. (Links to copy deck first draft.)

Community Engagement Tagline

I came up with a new tagline to create consistency for Community Engagement promotions: Let’s Save and Celebrate Together! This was its first outing promoting the 54th Annual African American Day Parade, which I wrote in line with a flyer format (print). (Links to design mock up.)

Bundle Discounts on Member Loans Email

This was an early attempt to create a more informal, conversational approach to MCU communications as the company moved to a much broader membership requirement. (Links to copy deck first draft.)

Home Loans Flyer

This was a flyer (print) for home loans, with a strict template for space. I went with action verbs to support the main header APR and make the copy scannable. (Links to design mockup.)

Home Is Where the Heart Is Campaign

This ad example (print) for a fixed home equity loan, gives a sense of the lighter feel I wanted to introduce to MCU’s TOV, and which was followed by a talented designer. (Links to design mock up.)
