Early in 2006, a member of The Irish Democratic League of Great Britain contacted me and asked if I’d write an article about Michael Davitt, the Irish Republican politician and founder of The Irish National Land League.
The article was in preparation for the Davitt centenary, which included a visit to the Davitt branch headquarters in Haslingden, Lancashire (British home town of Michael Davitt, as well as my own home town), by then Irish President, Mary McAleese.
